The University of Ilorin Alumni Association held a prestigious luncheon and awards ceremony on October 21, 2024, at the university’s Multi-Purpose Hall to celebrate distinguished alumni and recognize the best graduating students of the 2022/2023 academic session. Among the distinguished Alumni honoured were Engr. Musibau Ayodele Abioye (MAA) (Managing Director of BUA Foods Plc) and Engr. Morenikeji Ayodele Aniye (MAA) (CEO and Founder of Hotspot Network Limited).
Engr. Abioye, with over 30 years of experience in the manufacturing and supply chain sector, was celebrated for his leadership and innovative strides that have significantly impacted the nation’s industrial landscape. Meanwhile, Engr. Aniye, a telecommunications expert with over two decades of experience, was recognized for his pioneering efforts in expanding wireless networks to rural communities through his company, Hotspot Network Limited.
Other notable honourees included Professor Wahab Egbewole, Vice-Chancellor of UNILORIN; Professor Shykh Lukman Jimoh, Vice-Chancellor of Kwara State University; and Professor Abdulrasheed Na’Allah, former Vice-Chancellor of the University of Abuja, all recognized for their leadership in higher education.
In his speech, the President of the UNILORIN Alumni Association, Professor AbdulRazaq Olubusuyi Kilani, highlighted the importance of recognizing these outstanding achievements and reaffirmed the association’s commitment to supporting and nurturing future talents. He emphasized that the honorees' accomplishments exemplify the excellence that the University fosters in its students and alumni alike.
Vice-Chancellor Professor Wahab Egbewole thanked the UNILORIN Alumni Association for organizing the event and commended the committee’s hard work. He urged continued efforts to foster unity among alumni and expressed gratitude to the guests, including other university vice-chancellors, for their support.
Speaking on behalf of all the awardees, Engr. Abioye expressed their deep gratitude for the recognition and reiterated their commitment to giving back to their alma mater. He reflected on how their education at the University of Ilorin played a pivotal role in shaping their careers and pledged continued support for initiatives that advance the institution’s goals.
The ceremony concluded with a renewed sense of pride and commitment from the honourees, alumni, and university leadership. It underscored the university’s legacy of producing exceptional graduates who go on to make meaningful contributions to society, further strengthening the bond between the university and its alumni.
