UNILORIN, 17 other varsities to share ₦110bn to upgrade medical schools

The University of Ilorin is among 18 universities benefiting from the Federal Government's N110 billion investment in medical education, courtesy of TETFund.

Minister of Education, Dr Tunji Alausa, made this known while inaugurating the ministerial committee on TETFund High Impact Intervention Project for Medical Schools Rehabilitation Across the Six Geo-political Zones on Tuesday in Abuja.

Each university will receive approximately ₦4 billion, with ₦750 million allocated for hostel construction. This initiative aims to upgrade facilities, expand resources, and equip medical schools with the latest technologies.

The Minister of Education, Dr Tunji Alausa, highlighted President Bola Tinubu's commitment to improving medical education and healthcare delivery in Nigeria.

The Vice Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, Professor Wahab Egbewole, SAN, attended the event that took Place at the Fund’s Headquarters in Abuja.

A 12-man Ministerial Monitoring Committee, chaired by Prof. Biodun Sulyman Alabi, has been inaugurated to ensure adherence to project goals and proper use of funds. Professor Alabi, Provost of the College of Health Sciences at the University of Ilorin, serves as Chairman of the Association of Provosts of Colleges of Medicine.
